The Mississippi Ornithological Society was founded in 1955. The purposes of MOS are to encourage scientific research in the field of ornithology and to promote and encourage greater appreciation and conservation of native birds; and to cooperate with other organizations engaged in ornithological research and/or in the observation and study of birds. The Mississippi Kite publishes original articles that advance the study of birdlife in the state of Mississippi.
