Abstract

Red-shouldered Hawks (Buteo lineatus) are known to take a variety of reptilian prey, but only three chelonian species have been reported. We documented B. lineatus depredating eight additional turtle species at a central Florida location. Chelonian prey selection in this study appears to be limited by species presence and abundance, prey size, and energetic costs.
